Description
Autumn in all its glory at the Jay Cooke State Park just southwest of Duluth, Minnesota.
The Jay Cooke State Park protects the lower reaches of the St. Louis River. It is known for this swinging bridge that crosses the river and provides amazing views of the rocky gorge.
Historically, this area was a major barrier for the Native Americans and early Europeans traveling by canoe. The river was a vital link connection the Mississippi waterways from the west to the Great Lakes to the east. The park is part of the state scenic byway known as Rushing Rapids Parkway.
The swinging bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places.
