Description
The Commons, an indoor community and event space in downtown Columbus, Indiana, is decorated for Christmas.
The original Commons building was designed by world-renowned architect Cesar Pelli in the early 1970s. It was a downtown shopping center with public space and a play area. Sadly, with the high upkeep cost of the aging building, most of the mall was demolished in 2008. What was left of the Pelli structure was taken down its steel skeleton and redesigned by Boston-based architectural firm Koetter Kim referencing Pelli’s former design. Still known as The Commons, today it is a community events center with a five thousand square foot indoor playground.
